AND THE WINNER IS..............POTRERO NUEVO!
Our new hand-roasted, proprietary espresso blend has been christened: POTRERO NUEVO. The name harkens back to the original name of this area. In 1835, the Spanish land grant was given to Don Francisco DeHaro and he was gifted Potrero Nuevo (New Pastures) to graze his cattle. The winning name was submitted by Pat Cadam of Pat's Garage. Pat will be enjoying a week's worth of free espresso drinks.

Having curated several group photography shows at Farley's over the past few years, Greta and Manu Schnetzler will be presenting a selection of their own night photography images at Farley's during the month of August. Their longstanding interest in night photography is reflected in the variety of subject matter and places reflected in these striking color photographs. As the photographers explain: "Our night work is a good example of our continuing desire to explore our environment, to see common sights in a different way and to capture images that reveal the mystery of the everyday."
Greta and Manu live and work on Potrero Hill and have shown their work with other Hill artists as well as with the Studio Nocturne group at Fort Mason during SF Open Studios. They also show their work online at www.schnetzler.com
Considering the number of insects flying in and out of our lives and the lives of each other over the course of a day, it is much easier to be void of all efforts in acknowledging any of them. Sure some of us may be considerate enough to escort them from our space on a napkin opposed to the other option being murder. But in our civil daily interactions we still don't stop in order to go out of our way for the little buggers.
A mixed media installation to simply remind all of our can't stop moving-deadline consumed-sensory and information overloaded-city dwelling selves to stop, even for a few seconds each day, in order to acknowledge the parallel and quite similar existences of others. If we allow the fronts and surface stresses of others to satisfy our understanding of who they might be, our chances of inspiration and lovely moments with them are lessened. As we step into our respective daily routines, some of which begin over the same liquid, this project is meant to remind us of the potentialities of interaction, which will indeed, occur throughout the day.
It’s August, chilly outside, and most folks coming through our doors are slightly bundled up. We here in the Bay Area know the importance of layers of clothing and the essential hoodie sweatshirt. I have been told a million times before that summer weather doesn’t really arrive until about September, but I always forget.
Here at the shop we couldn’t be happier with the new espresso blend. And we finally have a name for it! In the spirit of neighborhood pride, we have selected the name, “Portrero Nuevo” for the espresso. Everyone has been enjoying the outstanding flavor and crema of Potrero Nuevo-especially with the new Gibraltar glasses.
We have had a few deliveries of the Vegan donuts and the votes are in, they are well liked by all. In my humble opinion, the blueberry flavor is the best and never lasts for long, so if you see it, get it. Also in pastry news, every Saturday we will be having a new Raspberry-Almond Tart made by the same folks who make the dirt bombs, so you know it’s good.
Finally, did you know that an espresso blend can make a delicious drip coffee? It’s not often served this way, but as we roll out Potrero Nuevo, we want to highlight its roasty flavor as a drip coffee, so we have decided to make it August’s coffee of the week. From August 1st through 7th we will be offering Potrero Nuevo Drip in addition to Jack’s House Blend.
See you in the shop!

“It is the languid passage of interchange between people, the dynamic of time spent with intent, even as its idly invested in self. Once upon a time, coffeehouses were cool for all these reasons, and at Farleys, it remains so. Like a local bar, it has all the cache without the neon or the jukebox.” http://yummylist.hollygleason.net/
