Born to Chilean expatriates, Marta was raised near Baltimore. She studied painting and drawing at Carnegie Mellon University, receiving a BFA there, and went on to get her MFA from Cranbrook Art Academy. Marta moved to the Bay Area just over ten years ago, and recently developed this series of paintings based on observations and photographs of her step-daughter in the light and water of China Beach and Yosemite Valley. Reception Sunday, Feb 5th 3:30pm.
Tricia Atlas describes her work:
“Hold on to your heartstrings before Valentines Day ads and childhood issues pull them into a shopping spree or an “I’m-all-alone-in-the-universe” existential funk. For an alternative V Day, check out my philosophic and silly heart sculptures on view in Farley’s windows all February. Expect cement and the unexpected. I’m not against shopping. My artwork is available for sale.”
