Recently returned to the Bay Area, artist Kris Roettele will be showing a group of landscape paintings created in Colorado , where he lived and worked from 2006-08. These paintings, for the most part done in the mountains where he was living, represent a whole new direction for the artist, a fresh start one might say, going back to the basic and formal elements of painting, inspired a great deal by post-impressionist works. Surviving the artist’s own harsh criticisms of his works, these paintings are the result of two years of struggle, not only with painting itself, but also with the human mind.
"As a cabdriver always driving around looking for passengers, I notice old signs on buildings. Now and then I’ll grab a visual motif and apply it to the word 'TAXI'. The panels on display are from the Mission District." Al is a longtime San Francisco taxicab driver. He got his medallion in 1984 and became AL300.
What do John Phillip Sousa and Farley’s have in common? Every year on July 4th Mr. Sousa pays us a visit as we play one of his most popular marches, "The Stars and Stripes Forever." Though Mr. Sousa had a fear of conducting over the radio because he thought he would lose his connection with the audience, we think the march sounds perfect playing out of Roger’s window while we stage a little fireworks show of our own. Please join us on the 4th with our family and friends as we partake in this wonderful tradition. The show begins at dark.
We have added something to Farley's that you may have not noticed. It’s been kind of a secret, but in the spirit of spilling the coffee beans, I will let you in on it. We have a new style of glass sitting atop the espresso machine. It goes by many names, but the most popular one is “ Gibraltar ” which refers to its paneled design. Basically, all of the baristas at Farley's love to drink out of these glasses because of the ratio of milk to espresso. We thought we should share the love and buy a few to make drinks in. Feel free to have a drink made in one.
Also in new and exciting things, we are doing a trial-run with vegan donuts! We will be getting an assortment of flavors from People's Donuts a few days out of the week to see how you folks like them. Take it from an omnivore who knows- they are tasty.
The Name the Espresso contest is shaping up to be an exciting one. Keep those entries coming! If your name is selected you will enjoy free espresso drinks for a week, not to mention some serious bragging rights.
Last but not least, get ready for some Costa Rican coffee. From July 1st through the 7th we will be offering our medium roast Costa Rican coffee in addition to Jack's.
Happy July 4th and see you all in the shop!
After escaping the bitter cold of a seemingly endless Philly winter (and blizzard in Montreal ), Sofi was feeling quite content with her decision to move to San Francisco . It was one of those breezy sunny days that she decided to go for a bike ride and inevitably stop for coffee. She happened upon her soon to be best friend Willbert, who she knew from Seattle . He invited her to hang out at the park and although his casualness seemed suspect, she accepted. There lying on the grass, she met Evan, Josh and Angus. They were a substantial chunk of the Farley’s crew whose forces she’d soon join. Sofi enjoys rope swings, traveling, yoga, philosophy, delicious food, and writing for the Feminist Review. She hopes to be a superhero and/or journalist when she grows up.
Play “bean ball” buy one pound of any coffee beans at Farley’s and you are eligible to enter the drawing for two free SF Giants tickets.
