Friday, July 10th – Live music, The Kenny Kearney Quartet. The KKQ is a band of local masters with a long and intertwined history. This incarnation is a rekindling of those musical relationships in a new context. John Ingle on Alto and Soprano Saxes is equally at home with modern classical or jazz as well as the Classics of the "Great American Songbook". Jan Jackson is one of the most in demand drummers in town. He's played w/ everyone, most notably Wil Bernard and Beth Custer's various projects. Peter Tilttlebach on bass is a unique composer whose music seems to fuse the ideas of Zappa and Monk with his own off kilter sense of humor. Kenny Kearney on guitar brings a wide range of influences from genuine 70's fusion to straight ahead jazz, as well as Classical and Flamenco guitar styles. Show at 8pm.

Farley’s Staff Annual Art Show

Staff Art Show

In July the Farley’s Gallery will feature our second annual staff art show! It's a theme-free group show aimed at showcasing the many talents and endeavors of your local baristas, cause believe it or not, they’re not just a bunch of grumpy slackers hacking it at a coffee job. The show will include everything from video to print and even some plant life. Crazy. The opening will be held on Friday July 3rd with live music from staff musicians Casy and Brian and Boys VI Men. So come by and join us in celebrating ourselves.

Our New Manager’s Corner

Jesus. It’s July. How the hell did this happen? The halfway point on 2009 just came and went. Time is flying and times are changing. As I write this “introduction,” we all must bid farewell and good luck to Jillian as she makes her big move away from the bay. Jill has great adventures lying ahead of her and may our loss be her gain.

With that said, I, Joe have taken the vacated manager position here at Farley’s and Evan (Magazine Boy) has taken over the responsibility of Assistant Manager. If anyone should be so inclined, feel free to approach one of us with a suggestion, question or even a kind word. We always appreciate and welcome your comments and criticisms here at Farley’s (but we do reserve the right to politely ignore them).

There are a lot of plans in the works and you’ll begin to notice their materialization in the coming days and months. Please don’t be alarmed, the coffee will still be caffeinated, the floors green and people will always yank on the bathroom door before knocking. After all, it is July, summer is here, so relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery both in and outside the shop.

As well, July at Farley’s will include a fabulous staff art show opening July 3rd with live music and our annual 4th of July fireworks party. The latter is a neighborhood staple so if you haven’t experienced one before or perhaps you’re new to The Hill, please join us at dusk as we light up 18th St.

Finally, let me not forget to mention the now open Farley’s East in Uptown Oakland. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Broadway and Grand in Oakland, stop in and check it out, have some wine and a delicious Panini. Mmmm.
