Topher Delaney's career as an environmental artist and builder has encompassed a wide breadth of projects that focus on the exploration of seminal interpretations of landscape architecture, site installation and public art. Her practice, SEAM Studio, located in Potrero Hill, has evolved from a landscape contracting corporation into an atelier which serves as a venue for the investigation of cultural, social and artistic narratives "seamed" together to form dynamic physical installations. Is it May already? It seems as though the past few months have flown by. We have seen a lot of new faces at Farley’s recently and a lot more of our regulars who have been enjoying the convenience of the free wi-fi. It’s true, there are a lot of Macs out there, but don’t be shy to break out your pc.
I am pleased to announce we have recently purchased a new espresso tamper. It is the tool that packs the ground espresso into the individual brew basket before pulling a shot of espresso. If I seem a wee bit obsessed about this little item, it’s because I am. A quality tamper can help us pull better shots of espresso which equals tastier drinks.
Also in shop news, you will be seeing more savory items in the morning pastry selection. Not all of us have a morning sweet tooth, so we decided to add spinach parmesan and bacon cheddar gougeres (like a scone, but puffier). We hope you enjoy them.
As for the coffee of the week, it seems that most of you prefer a darker roast, so we have decided to feature Sweet Italian May 1st through 7th. Sweet Italian is dark, syrupy and has always been one of our top sellers. Drink up.
Along with the cost of most foods increasing, coffee bean prices have risen as well. In fact, world coffee prices have risen 23 percent over the past six months. Thus, we will be raising our bean prices nominally. However, we are absorbing the price increase on drinks and NOT raising drink prices. We are also now offering “bean cards” giving you a pound free after purchasing ten pounds, plus you can still play “Bean Ball” to win Giants tickets when you purchase beans.
We are happy to announce we have a new neighbor across the street, Umi. They have the best sushi on the block! Stop by Farley’s while waiting for a table or visit after your meal for a dessert. http://umisf.com/
Play “bean ball” - buy one pound of any coffee beans and you are eligible to enter the drawing for two free SF Giants tickets. This month’s game features your SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS vs. the Chicago White Sox on Friday, May 16th at 7:15PM. We will contact you if you are the lucky winner.
Are you a member of a large group of people/organization of some sort that would like to receive $0.25 discount on all beverages? If so, please let us know your group (e.g., SF Bike Coalition) and how you can help promote Farley’s in this partnership.
After being gone for about a year and a half, Hannah Miller is back working at Farley’s. She is back in the Bay working on finishing a tattoo apprenticeship with Jesse Tuesday. Hannah has a degree in Studio Art and is expected to be learning a trade where she will be able to use her artistic talent to some degree. Over the past year, she has developed a new passion – ROLLER DERBY – and is currently skating with Humboldt’s Redwood Rollers. Being the daughter of the son of a champion boxer, it is no wonder she would fall in love with such a sport.
