January Events
January 1st, Saturday: New Years Day, open 7:30AM to 10PM. Start your new year with a “cup of community.” January 7th, Friday: Art opening & reception for illustrator Hugh D’Andrade. Come by and meet Hugh and view his “illustrations marked by a discernable absurdity & neo-nourish pathos.” For you “Burners”, the newest Burning Man poster will be featured! 7PM. January 15th, Saturday: Potrero Hill Friends of Old Time Music play Saturday afternoon from 2-4PM. The Potrero Hill Friends of Old Time Music get together, from time to time, to play tunes from rural and often isolated parts of the Appalachian Mountains. You might call it 19th century Trance music or American Stringboard music. If you haven’t yet, you might want to come by just to see and hear the Clawhammer style of banjo playing, a fascinating archaic method in which the strings are sounded by hitting them with the backs of the fingernails. See you all then and there! January 17th, Monday: Martin Luther King Day, open 8AM till 10PM. January 22nd, Saturday: Cory Combs monthly music concert. Come out and hear this great combination of well-known Bay Area musicians in an intimate acoustic setting, 2:00-4:00PM.
Artist of the MonthHugh D’Andrade is a very busy man. When he is not feverishly creating illustrations marked by a discernible absurdity and neo-nourish pathos, he is patiently designing book covers, posters and web sites with unparalled panache. Hugh’s illustrations have appeared in “US News & World Report”, “Drawing Ink.”, “Bitch”, and he has done posters for Bill Graham Presents and Burning Man. Reception Friday, January 7th at 7PM. www.hughillustration.com
Window Display of the MonthOnce again, Hill resident Jamie Putnam wows us with one of her many collections. This month features a unique look at “Trailer Trash” artifacts.
Farley’s is looking for collectors that would like to display their treasures in the window boxes. If interested, send an email to rwhfarley@aol.com
Staff and General NewsThanks to everyone that donated toys to the firefighters toy program. You made many kids very happy this Christmas. We collected over two barrels of toys! Hello Claire: Back this New Year is our favorite Irish lass after two months on the old sod. The accent is sure to be a bit thicker and smile a bit bigger. Congratulations Vanessa: Ex-staffer Vanessa completed the Aids Marathon in Hawaii. Thanks to all of you that contributed.
