| Farley's on 65th |
 |
| Hello Emeryville! The Farley's family has grown with the addition of Farley's on 65th, a great little brick building located at 1195 65th street between San Pablo and Hollis (the former space of Bailey's on 65th). We are up and running with limited hours (Mon-Fri from 7:30am-2:30pm), but look for expanded and weekend hours starting at the end of June. Stay tuned for more details and your exclusive invite to the grand opening party the last weekend in June!

| Magazine of the Month |

Launched in 2007, Monocle is a global briefing covering international affairs, business, culture and design. Headquartered in London with bureaux in Tokyo, Zürich and New York, Monocle appears 10 times a year. Developed for an international audience hungry for information across a variety of sectors, Monocle's team of award-winning editors and correspondents have been drawn from The New York Times, The Independent on Sunday, the BBC, CBC and a host of other news and current affairs outlets. More of a book than a magazine, Monocle's designed to be highly portable (it's lightweight and compact) and collectable (it's thick and robust). Edited by Wallpaper* founder and Financial Times columnist Tyler Brûlé, Monocle offers a comprehensive global briefing under a single editorial brand. In print and online, writers and photographers are dispatched to over 50 countries every issue to deliver stories on forgotten states, alluring political figures, emerging brands, fresh forces in popular culture and inspiring design solutions.

City Canvas and Westlake Elementary School Present the Westlake Signal Box Project
Get a sneak preview of the murals to adorn the Uptown signal boxes!
City Canvas is a grassroots project intended to foster neighborhood identity across the East Bay through community-driven public art. A collaboration of professional and seasoned teaching artists, community builders, city planners, and arts administrators, the City Canvas team was brought together by our common desire to contribute to the vibrancy of our cities. City Canvas will create opportunities for shared visioning and creation of public art in neighborhoods across Oakland and Berkeley through partnerships with city agencies, neighborhood schools, businesses, residents, and local artists.
Through a grant from the City of Oakland Public Art Program's Open Proposals, City Canvas will work with eighth grade students at Westlake Middle School near Lake Merritt. As part of a leadership course, the students will work with the community, create art that explores their identities as youth and as Oakland residents, and examine how they fit into the broader civic community.
Lead teaching artist and professional muralist David Stern-Gottfried will adapt this art into a format to be painted and installed on traffic signal boxes throughout Oakland's Uptown/Lake Merritt neighborhood. As part of the design process, students will actively engage local residents and businesses, and open paint days in the spring will provide an opportunity for interested community members to be directly involved in the project. Student work may also be featured in gallery settings, and as part of Oakland's First Friday Art Murmur sometime in the late spring. Art work will be installed summer 2010 on traffic signal boxes.

Lake Merritt Rowing Club
The Lake Merritt Rowing Club is open to all community members who wish to learn the sport of rowing or refine their competitive skills. Since 1962, the Club has provided a wide range of rowing programs for all ages and skill levels. Our novice program includes Summer Youth Rowing (an introductory summer program for Oakland youth), sculling lessons and sweep lessons. Our member programs include the Mixed Intermediate Crew for recreational and intermediate level rowers, the Senior Men's Crew and Senior Women's Crew for advanced rowers, and San Francisco Bay Blades, a primarily lesbian and gay group within LMRC. We encourage adults and youth in Oakland to participate through "Learn To Row Day" and classes, as well as with our Summer Youth Rowing Program for kids ages 12 – 18 years. The Summer Youth Rowing program offers scholarships and assistance for kids to partake in this wonderful team building sport.
