Artist AND Window Display of the Month Elder Art If you think creativity is the product of youthful imaginations, then an unusual upcoming exhibit at Farley’s will surprise you. Paintings and small sculptures, all created by the elderly residents of San Francisco nursing homes, will be on display throughout September. Impressionistic pastels, wildly painted acrylics, and soft pencil sketches will leave you wondering just how these elder artists get their inspiration. The exhibit is part of the archives of the Art With Elders program, a non-profit organization that offers art classes taught by professional artists in thirty local nursing homes. The paintings are each framed with a photograph of the artist and a short bio that gives viewers a glimpse into the sometimes poignant and sometimes humorous stories of their lives. The paintings will be for sale with all proceeds benefiting the art program.
Art With Elders teaches over 350 elder artists in more than 1200 classes each year. The resulting art works are juried into an annual exhibit which travels to twelve venues in the Bay Area. The exhibit at Farley’s will be a collection of favorites from past exhibitions. For more information, call Robin Myers, Program Director at 415-218-0185. www.eldergivers.org/artprograms.html
